Brief History

The Biotechnology Research Training Project of Ahmadu Bello University took off in 1998. The project was completed and commissioned on 10th May, 2004. Before its commissioning on 10th May, 2004, its temporary office began in Department of Veterinary Public Health & Preventive Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University on 17th October, 2000 known as Biotechnology Research and Training Project.


The first Coordinator was Dr. J. K.P Kwaga with Mr. S. K Yashim as Secretary. Dr. A. J. Nok became the 2nd Coordinator in February 2002. Dr. Nok worked hard successfully and ensured that the Biotechnology Research Project was completed and commissioned on the 10th May, 2004, and was renamed “CENTRE FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH AND TRAINING (CBRT)”, and research activities began. Prof. A.A Ahmadu became the 3rd Coordinator in August, 2004 followed by Dr. S. Ibrahim who was appointed the 4th Coordinator in August, 2005. Professor A. J. Nok (MFR) is now the first Director of the Centre following his appointment, which took effect on 1st June, 2007 to-date.
