Prof. I.I. Funtua, New DVC (Administration)

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu U. Abdullahi announces the appointment of Professor I.I. Funtua as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration). The appointment followed Senate approval at a meeting held on Thursday, 26th June, 2008. He is to serve in this capacity for a period of two years with effect from 26th June, 2008.  His appointment will be ratified by the University Council at a later date. Professor I.I.Funtua is the Director of Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT).

A Professor of Geology, the new DVC (Admin) was born in 1964 in Funtua, Katsina State.  He had his Primary and secondary education at Aya Primary School, Funtua and Kufena College, Zaria between 1970 – 1981 respectively.

Professor I.I. Funtua graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), Master of Science (M.Sc) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees in Geology in 1985, 1988 and 1992 respectively.  He became Professor in 2002.

The DVC (Admin) joined the services of the Ahmadu Bello University as Research Assistant in 1986.  He briefly served as Director, Special Duties, Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority in 2005 and in 2006 he was appointed Director, Centre for Energy Research and Training.

He is a member of several professional bodies, among them, Nigerian Institute of Physics, Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, World Energy Council (WEC), New York Academy of Sciences, Materials Science Society of Nigeria, and National Geographic Society of Nigeria. He also has over fifty publications to his credit.

He is married with children.
