Audit Command Language (ACL) Training Workshop for Audit, ICT and Accounting Departments Funded by Mc-Arthur Foundation

Participants of the ongoing workshop on Audit Command Language (ACL) taking place at the Multimedia and Web Services Unit (ICT Park and Hotspots/First Bank Building) of the Information and Communication Technology Directorate were pleasantly taken by surprise when the African Director of the MacArthur Foundation, Dr. Kole Shettima, paid them an unscheduled visit on Monday 25th January, 2010.

The 2-week long workshop which started on Monday 17th January  has in attendance staff of the Internal Audit Division including the University’s Chief Internal Auditor and representatives of other stakeholder units including those of the Information and Communication Technology Directorate. The workshop, which is anchored by Phillip’s Consulting, is among the capacity building drives in the Nigerian Universities funded by the Foundation, aimed at empowering staff in the aspect of e-auditing and data analysis in this era of electronic/information revolution.

Accompanied on the visit by the University’s MacArthur Foundation Committee Chairman, Prof. Oga Steve Abah and the University’s Linkages Officer & ABU MacArthur Grant Liaison Officer, Nasir Bello, Dr. Shettima, expressed the desire of the Foundation in seeing that the capacity of staff of Ahmadu Bello University improves significantly. MacArthur Foundation, he said, is ready to sponsor training workshops such as this that will further empower university staff to perform optimally, as the quality of a University lies heavily on the quality of her staff.

The ACL Training is part of the Project activity on the Overhaul of University Management Organs. The Project, which has a total of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars budgeted for it over a three year period, would entail capacity building activities, review of outmoded manuals of operation, purchase of computer software and hardware and an attempt at general change of attitude of staff in the Audit, Registry and Bursary units of the University.
