Prof. Zakari Mohammed

Zakari Mohammed is Professor of Library and Information Science in the Department of Library and Information Science, Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria, where he earned his BLS(Hons) and MLS in 1980 and 1983 respectively. In 1991 he earned his Doctorate degree in Information Science from Moscow State Humanities University. He also has a graduate certificate in Education and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria, in 1980 and 1998 respectively.

Prior to his appointment as the University Librarian in 2007, he was appointed as the Deputy Dean, Postgraduate School, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, between. 2004-2006 and Director, Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring, A.B.U. Zaria between 2006-2007.

He has successfully supervised over 45 postgraduate students in various fields of Library & Information Science and also an External Examiner for over 5 Universities in Nigeria. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Management Digest as well as that of Samaru Journal of Information Studies and Information Manager both a journal publication of the Department of Library and Information Science a member of the editorial board of 5 other professional journals. He has been the Head of Department for many years. As an active member of Nigeria Library Association and Nigeria Institute Management (NIM) he has been awarded a fellow of both Associations.

At the international level he has been awarded the International Intellectual of the Year (2001), International Man of the year (2001) and IBC 21st Award for Achievement and outstanding Scholar of the 21st Century, International man of the year (2004) all by the International Biographical Centre Cambridge England. Similarly the American Medal of honour by the American Biographic Institute Inc (ABI) N.C. USA. 20021

He has been conducting research in such areas as Library and Information Science, Information Management, ICT applications, Education and Management. Similarly he has over 100 publications as referred journal publications in Professional International and local journals, contribution to books, conference proceedings, and seminar/workshop and conference presentations. He is a consultant to World bank, UNICEF, UNESCO and FGN on projects on Education, ICT application, Databases Systems and HIV/AIDS and water management.
