The Veterinary Teaching Hospital was carved out of the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Medicine in 1983 primarily to provide clinical research, teaching facilities as well as Community Service. It runs specialized clinics such as Small animal and pet practice; Equine practice; Large Animal clinics; Avian clinics and Ambulatory clinics
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital is headed by a Director who is presently Prof. P.A. Abdu. He oversees both the administrative and academic Units of the hospital. Whereas the Hospital Secretary directly deals with administrative matters, an accountant oversees the account, stores and record units of the hospital. The various clinical areas such as Large Animal clinic, Small Animal clinic, Ambulatory clinics, and Poultry clinics as well as the Surgery and Radiology clinics are designated as Units and consequently headed by Unit Heads. The various activities and services of the hospital are hence supervised by the various Units Viz.:
