The Veterinary Surgery and Medicine Department was established at the inception of the faculty in 1964. It offers courses to Veterinary students at various levels of their undergraduate and postgraduate training. The department also coordinates the teaching of clinical students in Large Animal Practice and Small Animal Practice.
A Head of Department, who is currently Prof. A.B. Ogunkoya, heads the Department. He oversees both the academic and administrative structure of the department. The administrative Units are the Secretariat and stores/accounts, while the academic Sections are the Small Animal Section, Large Animal Section, Poultry Section and Theriogenology Section.
