Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre (EMDC)
About Us
The Equipment Maintenance Development Centre (EMDC) was established in 1990 as a result of a grant obtained from the British Government under the auspices of the Overseas Development Authority (ODA) by the National Universities Commission, for the sole purpose of reintroducing maintenance culture into the nation’s tertiary educational system. Ahmadu Bello University’s EMDC was one of the initial pilot Centers established, others being in ATBU, Bauchi, OAU, Ile-Ife, University of Calabar and University of Nsukka.
The Centre, designated as a Center of Excellence for Electric/Electronics and Computing by the National Universities Commission, is charged with the responsibilities of nurturing Equipment Maintenance Centers in higher institutions in the northwest geographical zone of the country. Thus, the ABU’s EMDC currently serves dual purpose; regional center for the NUC and Equipment Maintenance Centre for this University.
