Programme Overview

The Ph.D in Sculpture programme is designed to enable the students develop high and advanced artistic skills and capacity for critical thinking. It is also aimed at developing a creative and immaginative person who is able to combine advanced professional aesthetic pursuit of a meaningful cultural development of the wider society. the programme is studio based, meant to equip students with both theoretical and practical dimensions to undertake advanced independent investigations in sculpture.

The objectives of the Ph.D programme are as follows:
1. Contribute novel ideas to visual art practice.
2. Employ innovations in the application of application of existing methods of visual arts practise
8. Explore improvisation in the realization of emphemeral or tangible art forms.
4. Undertake critical reviews of art engagements with the public
5. Exhibit capacity for engaging the public in dialogue with art (sculpture).

Entry Requirements

Candidates must possess an MFA or MA degree in sculpture and must be practising artists with evidence of consistent practise. All cases to be determined through the assessment of the candidates’ portfolio of recent works of not more than five year practice. In exceptional cases, candidates whopossess a Master’s degree in related fields but who have been sculpting may be considered. All cases are determined through the assessment of the candidate’s
portfolio and through interview by the departmental postgraduate admissions sub-commitee. The portfolio shall be of recent works not more than five years and professionally presented.
