Brief History

The Eye department A.B.U. Teaching Hospital Shika was established as a result
of a directive by the Federal Government to relocate the Guinness Eye Hospital
(part of the A.B.U. Teaching Hospital Kaduna) to Shika.


1. Rotational postings to other specialties for residents who have passed the primary examination as specified by the Faculty of Ophthalmology.

2. Residents are encouraged to attend special seminars and Conferences and Postgraduate revision courses as organized by the Postgraduate College

3. All doctors are encouraged to attend pre-congress courses and the congress of the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria and the West African College of Surgeons.
