Brief History

KCA was established in 1964, with the assistance of USAID. The College was commissioned by the Late Alh. Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto, in May, 1965. It was established to offer training in Extension services leading to the award of certificate in General Agriculture.
The objective of establishing the KCA was to provide training for the middle-level manpower as well as to encourage Nigerians to take farming as a career. It is on record that the Kabba School of Agriculture has trained different cadre of personnel from the Ministries of Agriculture and Department of Agriculture in the local governments with the necessary skills to be able to manage their respective offices. The programmes at Kabba College include training horticulturists who are supposed to propagate tree crops nurseries, husbandry, and the art of environmental beautification to give our country a better landscape.
The College was initially under the Northern Region, Ministry of Agriculture until April 1968, when it was transferred to the Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University (IAR/ABU). By 1st October, 1969, all the facilities and staff were formally transferred to Ahmadu Bello University when the College became one of the four Colleges under the Division of Agricultural and Livestock Services Training (DALST). On 21st February 1977, DALST was renamed Division of Agricultural Colleges (DAC). The College initially ran Agricultural Assistant Course from 1964 to 1972.
The College is located 6 kilometers North of Kabba town along Kabba-Ilorin Road about 106 kilometers from Lokoja the Kogi State Capital. The College has a total land mass of 325.43 hectares including buildings, arable crop farm lands, orchards and plantations, livestock’s paddocks, roads etc.
At present the Kabba College offers courses leading to the award of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in the following areas:-
National Diploma (ND) Agricultural Technology
Higher National Diploma (HND) Horticulture and Landscape Technology
Higher National Diploma (HND) Agricultural Extension and Management
PRE-ND Science.
