One of the biggest potential sources for strength for Ahmadu Bello University remains the alumni. This most distinguished body which numbers well over 500,000 Women and men of all nationalities and races includes many of the people who today are leading the executive, legislative, judicial and private entrepreneurial sector of Nigeria and many African countries. As a consequence of the University's open door, national admission policy, it is today the only University with the active alumni branches in virtually all the state of the Nigerian federation.
In the last 5 years, the ABU Alumni Association undertook numerous fund- raising activities for the
University (at the National and state levels) and rendered material assistances to various unit of the university.
In addition to this, some prominent A.B.U Alumni and coperate bodies donated computers, teaching equipment and endowed
professorial chairs in some departments of the university.
The A.B.U alumni and its leadership at the national and state
levels also made several other contributions which have helped immensely in enhancing the resource base of the university.
In response to these inspiring gestures, the University Administration has since 1999, made tremendous efforts to keep
the Alumni-spirit high by attending to their admission request into undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, regular
high-powered visits to and interaction with various chapters of the of the Alumni association and its active members.
The management has strengthened the Alumni Unit of the vice chancellor's office in order to keep regular conduct with the
Alumni and mobilize them to identify with the University's aspirations.
