The Directorate of University Advancement started as the Planning and Resource
Mobilization Unit (PRMU) alias Development office
as contained in the funding proposal submitted by the University to the Carnegie
Corporation of new York in 2002.
As a result of several office and staff audit exercises conducted by personnel from the
Council for Advancement and support of Education (CASE) Europe, and facilitated by the MacArthur foundation,
a review and restructuring of the office was considered by the
University Management. Consequent upon this, a position paper was
prepared and presented to the University Council for the restructuring
of the office. The restructuring entails harmonizing the Development
office with the Alumni Office in to the Directorate of University
Advancement.The Directorate headed by the Director consists of four units. Development,
Alumni Relations, External Relations (Communication Unit),and Advancement Services.
The Directorate functions as an integrated team with a common strategy and objective to build a meaningful relationships
with key stake holders.
Advancement Director
The University Advancement Director is charged with the responsilbility to produce and implement a
strategy to achieve an integrated Advancement program, including clear objectives, performance measures,
budgets and other resource requirements for fundraising, alumni relations and communications.
The Director serves as the Chief Administrative head of the Directorate.
He post reports to the Vice-Chancellor through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
The roles of the Director will focus on the following areas:
Supervise and coordinate the running of the directorate, setting strategies
and goals for each unit and monitoring their progress towards goals.
Responsible for maintaining office space, supplies and equipment, also responsible for
presenting and monitoring of annual budget.
Develop and implement strategies to secure gifts that support institutional priorities
and achieve the agreed targets of the University.
Prepare and maintain Policy and Procedure manual for the Directorate
Facilitate increase in the University's network of supporters and advocates
nationally and internationally.
Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward highly-rated donors.
Cultivate, solicit, secure and steward seven figure and above gifts. (Naira)
Recruit, manage and direct the work of the Advancement team including mentoring
and assessment of staff.
Responsible for staff development programme for all staff of the Directorate,
including orientation for new employees.
Manage the fundraising budgets and ensure that the University can track the return
on the investment in fundraising.
Select and motivate senior members of the University community to become involved in
relationship building with supporters and potential supporters.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure motivation of students as future
alumni and supporters of the University.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure donated funds are used
effectively and in ways that are consistent with the University's undertakings to donors
and sponsors.
Ensure that suitable donor cultivation and stewardship events are planned and attend
events as required.
Achieve Key Performance Indicators as agreed with senior management.
Work within the Human Relations guidelines of the university.
Commission and oversee development communications as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice-Chancellor.
