Course Outline: In this course, the theory of the origin of literature in the classical period is examined as applied to the English, Arabic, and other African literatures. The growth and development of poetry, prose and drama, their main characteristics, theories and social functions are discussed across different literary traditions. The impact of modern through on literary classicism, and growth of the various modern theories of literature are also studied.
