| Course Outline: | The development of prose in the Abbasid era through the contributions of the non-Arab secretary class is given special attention. The contributions of Ibn al-Muqaffa, al-Jahiz and others are also considered. The growth of Maqamat through the works of Badi’ al-Zaman, al-Hamadhani and al-Hariri are to be studied. The growth, through translation of some “folk” narratives such as “Antara” and Abu Zayd al-Hilali is also discussed. |
