The growth of short story and novel within the Arabic literary renaissance in the Arab World are considered. The various factors such as the translation into Arabic of the European Novels, the language academy, and the Arabic journalism, which contributed to this development, are treated. The main literary trends of the short story and novels, the contributions to its development by selected works from such writers as Jurji Zaydan, al-Manfaluti, Husayn Haykal, Taha Hysayn, Mahmud Taymur and Najib Mahfuz, etc. |
