FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

Staff Matters

Recruitment and Promotion
Recruitment is primarily based on merit, and any other condition that maybe set by the University from time to time.

Promotions are based on laid down guidelines for promotion. Promotions are scrutinized by the departmental committee, faculty, complex and finally the central appointment and promotions committee. Thereafter independent external assessors are also involved for the Professorial and Readership positions.

Cases of dismissal or termination of appointment are considered by the staff disciplinary committee in line with laid down due procedures.

Policy and practice on staff development
It has been the policy of the University to train staff locally using available resources within and outside the University. In line with this, the University established a staff development training scheme for non-academic staff.  The academic staff members of the University undergo appropriate Postgraduate programmes at Master and Doctorate levels in their respective departments. However, where facilities are not available within the University, it has been the practice to send out staff for training after confirmation of appointment on study fellowship, subject to the availability of funds.

Staff Computerization Program
In tune with current trends, the faculty has commenced a staff computerization program which is being complemented by the University’s Computer Loans Scheme.  This is to facilitate the acquisition of computer laptops and attainment of computer proficiency by all staff with the ultimate objective of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine being a truly digital faculty in both administration and student instruction.
