Vision, Mission, Values and Objectives
Vision
Making our Services to be at a high standard where not only
students, and staff, even the Principal Officers of the University would
like to go personally and happily for their health needs. And also to
achieve and maintain a high standard of environmental sanitation and
sustainability that should be exemplary to our future leaders trained in
the University which would help them in promoting similar standards
elsewhere, even in the villages and towns where they will later work.
Mission
- Excellence In University Health Services
- Provision of a responsive high quality and highly accessible,
efficient and community based, comprehensive medical and health services
that is adequate, feasible, available affordable and acceptable to all.
This will also be anchored on:
- Evident based medicine and strong referral services
- Effective health education and good mental health services
- HIV/AIDS and drug abuse prevention and mitigation.
- Promotion of positive health practices, safe motherhood initiative
,reproductive health and immunization services, and
- youth friendly services
- Well equipped laboratory,
- Work place/ laboratory safety and accident prevention
- Food and water hygiene,
- Environmental sanitation, beautification and
protection.
These are necessary to meet the 21st century challenges of emerging
diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, and re-surgence of old diseases like
Tuberculosis, malaria due to severe poverty and other factors.
Values
UHS sees health care as an expression of concern for fellow
human beings through a multitude of services rendered to individuals,
families or communities by the agents of the health services or
professions, for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, monitoring or
restoring health.
UHS will:
- Work within the norms and the ethics of medical profession

- We are committed to ensure the highest possible level of health to
all members of the community
Objectives
- To provide comprehensive community health services which will
include judicious sitting of health clinics, health centers and if
necessary, hospitals on the campus.
- To provide a comprehensive environmental health services on
housing, town planning, water supply, refuse and sewage disposal,
drainage, food hygiene, prevention against soil, water and air
pollution, and provision for the prevention of all forms of accidents,
including those occurring in laboratories and at sports and recreation
activities. (The health services must ensure that things are done
according to World Health Organization standards.)
- To provide ample social welfare and social development
services
- To advise on adequate nutrition both for students, and more
especially, the junior staff members and their families. To offer
health education to all, including all senior and junior staff, and
especially pregnant women and the under-five children of the junior
staff.
- To provide a student health counselling service directed mainly
towards preventing diseases to which University students are
particularly liable such as mental and nervous breakdown, and sexually
transmitted diseases and to encourage all students to study hard, play
well and relax fully at all times.
- To provide advice, immunization, and the necessary health
examinations for all travellers, especially for the numerous overseas
travels of University senior officials, academic staff, overseas
consultants and external examiners.
- To provide monthly bills for health to University Board of
Health
- To co-ordinate and integrate their own health services with those
of their neighbouring government and private health related agencies,
in the further promotion of a comprehensive health services for the
entire university community. This is necessary because many students
and staff who are not offered intramural accommodation often reside in
rented houses near and around the University. For instance, in our
University with a student population of 36000 and 14000 bed’s spaces
means 60% lives off-campus. There are 1800 staff houses for the 6500
workers, more than 70% are living off-campus.
