Laboratory Unit

The section is overseen by a laboratory scientist employed in 1998. The staffers include three technicians, two assistance and four supporting staff. The laboratory carries out basic diagnostic laboratory tests within limited resources, such as culture and sensitivity, urinalysis, blood sugar test, pregnancy tests, FBC,blood grouping Widal test, etc. the laboratory also plans to carry out other tests soon. This is made possible through the token fees charged which enabled it to procure few types of equipment and also repaired some. Prior to its improvement the community really suffered in the hands of the proliferating fake laboratories who issued fake investigation results with varius consequensis on the already suffering patient. With its gradual improvement we are becoming more efficient.

This unit suffers greatly from under funding, which makes work very difficult for the staff and the patients not getting the optimal service. The quarterly allocation of N42,000 to the unit has been the same for many years. Now that the number of routine investigations have been introduced and also the number of patients coming for various investigations have increased, the unit found it difficult to cope with the financial backing from the management. It is therefore deemed it necessary to make the following presentation such that optimal service will be provided for the benefit of the University community.

Like all other general mechanical diagnostic laboratory , this unit runs different investigations pertaining to microbiology, harmatology, chemical pathology and parasitology. The unit also assist both students and staff of the University in carrying out their research projects.
