ADMISSIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Before applying to ABU, you should familiarise yourself with the degree
programmes offered. You will need to check that you meet all the relevant
entry requirements, for both the faculty and the specific degree programme
in which you are interested.
Undergraduate Degree Programme:
The University
has established general academic requirements which shall apply to all
students working towards a first degree. These requirements reflect the
University’s commitment to a broad-based quality education. The main
components of ABU’s undergraduate programmes are:
- Core curriculum in which students concentrate their studies and
receive degrees
- Electives which permit students to take courses of their own
choosing in consultation with their academic advisors
- General Studies Programme which acquaint students with the
foundation of general education in the sciences, social sciences and
humanities, as well as inculcating in the undergraduate students the
essence of nationalism and morality.
Graduation:
To be awarded a
first degree, the student must complete the following Credit Units,
depending on the Faculty:

4-years degree programmes: 120-150 Credit

Consistent with the new National Policy on Education i.e. the
6.3-3-4 system, 4-year undergraduate programmes are offered in the
Faculties of Administration; Arts, Social Sciences; Education;
Environmental Design (except Architecture, Building, Urban & Regional
Planning and Textile Science & Technology).
The Faculties of
Agriculture , Engineering , Law and Pharmaceutical Sciences and
Departments of Building and Textile Science and Technology offer 5 year
undergraduate programmes.
The undergraduate programmes in the Faculties
of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and in the Department of Architecture
normally require a minimum of 6-years to complete.
Higher Degree Minimum Entry
Requirements:
Candidates offered
admission should fulfill the minimum entry requirements stated against the
faculties into which they are admitted. All candidates should submit
originals and 2 photo-copies of their certificates or result slips.
Statements of result from schools are not acceptable. Similarly, birth
certificates and state of origin declaration are to be submitted.
General Entry Requirements:
- Five relevant credits in SSCE, SC, GCE O/L or TC II Merits or
equivalent obtained at not more than 2 sittings (TC II Merit is
equivalent to O/L Credit).
- Two A/L passes plus three O/L credits in 3 other subjects, at not
more than 2 sittings. Or, three A/L passes plus two OIL credits in 2
other subjects at not more than 2 sittings; two merits, two passes at TC
II plus two NCE merit passes, including Major Subject and Education.
- National or ABU Diploma with Merit or Lower Credit grade, including
at least Four O/L credits in SSCE/GCE or equivalent.
- Transfer candidates into classified degree programmes should have a
minimum CGPA of 1.50, and 2.40 for non-classified degree programmes
English Language Requirement:
- Credit in English Language at SSCE, GCE O/L or equivalent.
- Merit in English Language in TC II Examination.
- A Pass in the HSC, A/L General Paper, English Literature, or NCE
- General English.
- Credit in IJMB English Languages.
Mathematics Requirement:
- A Credit in Mathematics is required for all Science,
Social/Management, Science-based courses, except where it is stated
otherwise.
