Nuclear Science and Technology

  • Solid Minerals: Determination of major and minor elements, such as fluorine, silicon, sodium, gold, aluminum, gold, manganese and others in minerals ores and other geological samples
  • Decay Scheme Studies: Determination of nuclear decay parameters;
  • Measurement and evaluation of nuclear data
  • Crude oil Analysis: Determination of Vanadium and total hydrogen content of crude oil and other petroleum products.
  • Nutrition: Determination of protein (Nitrogen) in food.
  • Rapid determination of soil water
  • Agriculture  and Soil Fertility Studies:  Determination of phosphorous, magnesium, potassium, calcium and manganese, etc. in soils fertility  studies
  • Irrigation planning and scheduling especially in semi-arid zones of the country
  • Health: Determination of elements such as Co, Cr, Se, Na, Fe, Mg, Zn, etc. in biological and medicinal plants
  • Training and Research in fast and thermal neutron activation analysis

Materials Science

    Determination of Major, Minor and Trace Elements in geological, environmental and biological samples.
  • Measurement of elements such as K, Ca, Na, Li in water and serum samples
  • NORM determination by gamma spectroscopy
  • Determination of H-3, C-14, P, Ra, Rn, U, and Th in liquids and other consumables by liquid scintillation
  • Environmental radioactivity measurements
  • Determination of level and interface of liquids in large tanks containing hazardous materials
  • Troubleshooting and optimization of process columns for petroleum and other industries

Reactor Facility

  • Agriculture: Evaluation of nutrient elements in soil, and fertilizers.
  • Solid Minerals: Qualification and Quantification of elemental composition of Minerals and ores.
  • Petroleum Industry: Characterisation of crude oil and petroleum products.
  • Water Resources:  Study of the levels of toxic and heavy elements in wells, rivers, boreholes, bottled as well as public water supplies.
  • Environment:  Monitoring of pollution elements in air, water and sediments.
  • Health:  Monitoring of toxic and essential elements in food and consumer products.
  • Material Science: Trace elements in ceramics, electronic encapsulations and Silicon wafers.
  • Forensic Sciences:  Elemental analysis of hairs, nails, serum, to provide physical evidence at the scene of the crime.
  • Art and Archaeology: Identification of pottery and metal artifacts thru their elemental composition.
  • Teaching of Reactor Physics and Nuclear Engineering
  • Training of reactor operators, radiation protection and other officers involved in nuclear regulatory work
